Cornerstone Wellness offers BIOFLEX Laser-Light Therapy, a type of Low-Level Laser-Light Therapy (LLLT), also known as Photobiomodulation (PBMT). Research indicates that this therapy significantly accelerates the healing process and effectively mitigates chronic pain and inflammation.
Bioflex® Laser Treatment operates by emitting therapeutic wavelengths of light through specific laser diodes or superluminous diodes. These photons penetrate deep into the tissues, stimulating cellular activity and promoting healing. The light energy absorbed by the cells triggers physiological responses that improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and accelerate tissue repair. This non-thermal, low-level laser light therapy has been shown to positively impact various biological processes, including collagen synthesis, pain relief, natural healing facilitation, and immune system enhancement.
All BIOFLEX Laser Therapy systems are Health Canada and FDA approved.
Laser light therapy is highly effective in treating musculoskeletal conditions, arthritis, soft tissue injuries, sports injuries, wound healing, and a wide range of dermatological conditions. BIOFLEX® Therapy Systems are currently being used in 52 countries by a broad spectrum of healthcare professionals, including physicians, physiotherapists, chiropractors, naturopaths, dentists, veterinarians and athletic trainers.
The benefits of laser light therapy are proven in more than 4,000 scientific papers and 500 clinical studies. BIOFLEX® Laser Therapy utilizes scientifically developed and clinically tested protocols that maximize the effective treatment of an extensive range of clinical conditions.
Bioflex® Laser Treatment is an innovative therapy that provides a wide range of benefits. With its non-invasive nature and versatility, this treatment has gained popularity in the healthcare field. Other benefits include:
Soft Tissue & Sports Injuries
Repetitive Stress Injuries
Arthritic Conditions
General Problems
What Does It Help With?
LLLT treatment is specifically designed to enhance natural healing and is highly effective for various soft tissue injuries. These injuries include ligament, tendon, and muscle tears, repetitive stress injuries like carpal tunnel syndrome, diabetic sores caused by poor circulation, as well as cuts, bruises, abrasions, gout, and tendonitis, among many other conditions.
How Long Does A Treatment Take?
Treatments are typically 30 minutes to an hour long, depending on the area and condition being treated. Some injuries require more frequent treatment than others. Times will run longer if a massage treatment to the area is added.
How Many Treatments are Required?
While every case is unique, a typical treatment course often consists of approximately 3 - 5 sessions.
Is Laser Therapy Painful?
Laser Therapy is completely safe, non-invasive, non-toxic and pain-free. No pain is experienced during a Laser Therapy treatment. You may feel a warm, soothing sensation, and for many, this is a pleasant experience. It's very relaxing – some people even fall asleep during treatment!
Are there any side effects to laser therapy?
Laser Therapy is a highly safe form of treatment with no known side effects reported.
Are there any contraindications to Laser Therapy?
Eyes: We do not treat directly over the eyes, and appropriate safety goggles are required for both the client and the therapist. It should not be used on clients who get light-induced headaches or those who have genetic conditions of the eye.
Malignancy: Laser light therapy will not be used directly over known primary or secondary cancerous tumours.
Pregnancy: Treatment over the abdomen or lower back during pregnancy is avoided due to insufficient research and potential risks. There is no evidence of risk from treating distant parts of the body during pregnancy.
Epilepsy: Pulsing visible light (<30Hz) may trigger seizures in photosensitive patients with epilepsy, so caution is needed.
Photosensitivity: Some medications, including certain diuretics, can make your skin more sensitive to light, a condition known as photosensitivity. Exposure to red light, even in low doses, can trigger severe skin reactions in photosensitive people. Please check with your physician to determine if laser light therapy is right for you.
Tattoos: In general, laser light therapy can be applied over tattoos; however, there is a risk of skin blistering for black or dark pigments in some tattoos if they contain metal salts or iron oxides, which can inadvertently absorb and heat up, leading to blistering. A tattoo that is new and still healing requires at least 48 hours before laser light therapy is applied.
Hemorrhagic Conditions: Areas with active bleeding or a tendency for bleeding will not be treated.
Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT): Active DVT or thrombophlebitis will not be treated.
Thyroid Gland: Laser light therapy is not used over the thyroid gland.
Infected Tissues: Treating areas infected with virulent bacteria, such as those caused by tuberculosis, is not treated.
Is laser therapy covered by health plans or benefits?
Health care plans or extended benefits do not currently cover Laser Therapy unless it is incorporated into a massage therapy treatment.
Is laser therapy safe for all ages?
Laser Therapy is safe for anyone older than 2 years of age.
How quickly can I expect to see results?
Results are almost immediately evident for some people, while most people will typically see results after 3-5 treatments. Again, this depends on the severity of the condition; it could be more or it could less.
Is there anything I need to do or avoid after my first laser therapy treatment?
No, you may continue your day as planned; however, it is advised that people avoid participating in activities that will further aggravate the area while it is healing.
Can laser therapy be used over medical implants or over metal?
Laser Therapy will not interfere with or heat any surgical/metal implants (such as pacemakers, surgical screws, or artificial joints). It is completely safe with no side effects and highly effective for post-operative wound healing.
